What We’re Investigating Next
THE DEEP FILES investigates the people, companies, technologies, financial networks, public decisions, and institutional relationships behind issues of major public interest.
Some investigations begin with a document. Others begin with a financial trail, a contradiction, a technological claim, a court filing, a corporate relationship, or a question that has never been fully answered.
Below are investigations currently being prepared for publication.
OCTOBER 2026
MICROSOFT COPILOT
Safety Failures, Dangerous Instructions, and the Biological-Weapon Test
How far will an AI assistant go when a conversation crosses from ordinary information into potentially dangerous instructions?
THE DEEP FILES is examining documented interactions with Microsoft Copilot involving alleged safety failures, contradictory responses, potentially dangerous instructions, attempts to navigate around safeguards, and responses that raise questions about whether existing AI safety systems consistently recognize harmful user intent.
The investigation includes a test in which Microsoft Copilot allegedly provided information relevant to the creation of a biological weapon.
Rather than relying solely on isolated screenshots or selected quotations, THE DEEP FILES will examine the conversations in context and distinguish between what the system actually produced, what actions the information could potentially facilitate, and our analysis of the safety and governance implications.
The investigation will also examine Microsoft’s public safety commitments, the safeguards surrounding Copilot, consistency across differently phrased requests, transparency, accountability, and the wider question of what happens when an AI system possesses the capability to provide information that its safety architecture is supposed to restrict.
Microsoft will be given an opportunity to respond to material findings before publication.

THE COVID-19 FILES
Origin, Vaccines, Technology, Companies and the People Behind Them
COVID-19 transformed public health, government spending, scientific research, pharmaceutical markets, biotechnology, intellectual property, and the relationship between governments and private industry.
THE DEEP FILES will revisit this history through documents, scientific records, corporate disclosures, financial relationships, contracts, intellectual-property records, regulatory decisions and the people and institutions involved.
The purpose is not to begin with a predetermined conclusion.
It is to reconstruct the record.
ORIGIN OF COVID-19
What Do We Actually Know?
A reconstruction of the competing explanations surrounding the origin of SARS-CoV-2.
The investigation will examine available scientific evidence, early outbreak information, research activity, institutional communications, government assessments, competing hypotheses and the evolution of public claims about the origin of the virus.
Where evidence establishes a fact, it will be presented as such.
Where evidence remains incomplete or disputed, the uncertainty and competing interpretations will be identified.

COVID-19 VACCINES
The People, Institutions and Networks Behind Their Development
Who developed the technologies?
Who funded the research?
Who owned the intellectual property?
Who licensed it?
Who manufactured the products?
Who financed development and procurement?
Who received the resulting revenues?
This investigation will reconstruct the network behind the development of major COVID-19 vaccines — extending beyond the pharmaceutical brands printed on the final products.
Scientists, universities, biotechnology companies, pharmaceutical corporations, investors, governments, regulators, manufacturers, licensing entities and other relevant participants will be examined as parts of the same historical and economic network.

Long before COVID-19, Moderna was attempting to turn messenger RNA into a new therapeutic platform.
Then the pandemic changed the company’s position dramatically.
THE DEEP FILES will examine Moderna’s origins, founders, executives, investors, scientific partnerships, government relationships, public funding, intellectual-property disputes, vaccine development, manufacturing relationships and financial transformation.
COMING NOVEMBER 2026
PFIZER
Pfizer and the Key Figures Associated with the Company
One of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies became one of the most recognizable corporate names of the pandemic.
But the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was also the product of a much larger technological, contractual and manufacturing network.
THE DEEP FILES will examine Pfizer’s role, its partnership with BioNTech, government procurement, manufacturing, contracts, revenues, regulatory interactions and the executives and institutions surrounding one of the largest pharmaceutical programs of the COVID-19 era.
COMING NOVEMBER 2026
CUREVAC
CureVac and the Key Figures Associated with the Company
The history of messenger RNA did not begin with the successful COVID-19 vaccines.
CureVac was pursuing mRNA technology years before the pandemic and became an important participant in the early vaccine race.
THE DEEP FILES will examine its founders, investors, scientific work, intellectual property, government involvement, partnerships, financing, vaccine program and the events surrounding its position in the wider mRNA industry.
COMING NOVEMBER 2026
CELLSCRIPT
CellScript and the Licensing Chain Behind mRNA
Behind the major vaccine manufacturers lies another layer of companies, patents, technologies and licensing relationships.
CellScript occupies an important place in that history.
THE DEEP FILES will investigate the company’s role in the mRNA intellectual-property and licensing landscape, the technologies associated with it, the people behind those technologies and the relationships connecting scientific discoveries to commercial vaccine development.
